Why AlphaFold Didn't Solve Protein Folding — Pushmeet Kohli, Google DeepMind & Sal Candido, Biohub
AI InsightThe reflection by Google DeepMind and Biohub experts on AlphaFold's limitations implies that biological AI is evolving beyond static structure prediction. Relying solely on the bitter lesson of AI scaling faces bottlenecks when tackling complex biological mechanisms, driving the industry toward deeper dynamic biological understanding.Key TakeawayBiological AI is shifting from scaling-dependent static structure prediction to dynamic understanding of complex biological mechanisms. Why It MattersProtein folding is not just a structural problem but a dynamic functional issue. Clarifying AlphaFold's boundaries helps guide R&D capital and compute away from pure scaling dogma toward genuine biological mechanism modeling.Who's Affected- BeneficiaryGoogle DeepMindTaking the lead in rethinking next-gen biological AI paths consolidates its long-term strategic dominance in computational biology.
